Music & Art Therapist

At Allegheny Alliance, we believe in the power of music and art therapy to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our therapeutic programs foster self-expression, emotional well-being, and skill development while supporting individuals in living meaningful and fulfilling lives. As a Music and Art Therapist, you will provide individualized, person-centered therapy services in accordance with Pennsylvania’s Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) regulations, ensuring that individuals receive holistic, engaging, and effective support.

Key Responsibilities

Comprehensive Assessment & Treatment Planning

  • Adapt music and art activities to accommodate a range of abilities, sensory preferences, and behavioral needs.
  • Implement group and individual therapy sessions in community settings, residential homes, and vocational programs to maximize accessibility and participation.

Progress Monitoring & Documentation

  • Track individual progress through session notes, goal updates, and behavioral observations.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in compliance with ODP regulations, Medicaid billing requirements, and HIPAA standards.
  • Participate in ISP meetings, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to adjust therapy plans and advocate for individualized supports.

Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Teamwork

  • Work closely with behavioral specialists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, direct support professionals (DSPs), and families to provide integrated care.
  • Offer training and guidance to caregivers and staff on using music and art interventions in daily interactions.
  • Advocate for individuals by promoting accessible, inclusive community programs that encourage artistic and musical participation.

Continuing Education & Professional Development

  • Stay informed on best practices, research, and new methodologies in music and art therapy.
