As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), you will play a crucial role in providing direct care and support to individuals under the supervision of licensed nurses and healthcare professionals. Your responsibilities will involve assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring individuals’ health status, and promoting their comfort, safety, and well-being within various healthcare settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care Assistance:
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and mobility, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and hygiene needs are met.
- Provide assistance with feeding, hydration, and nutritional support, following prescribed diets and dietary restrictions.
- Vital Signs Monitoring:
- Take and record individuals’ vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure, as directed by the nursing staff.
- Report any significant changes or abnormalities in individuals’ vital signs promptly to the licensed nurse for further assessment and intervention.
- Individual Safety and Comfort:
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for individuals by assisting with bed making, room organization, and infection control measures.
- Use proper lifting and transfer techniques to safely move individuals in and out of beds, chairs, and other positions.
- Assistance with Medical Procedures:
- Assist nurses and other healthcare professionals with medical procedures such as wound care, catheterization, specimen collection, and simple dressing changes.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to individuals undergoing procedures or experiencing discomfort.
- Communication and Teamwork:
- Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and members of the healthcare team, providing updates on individuals’ condition, needs, and preferences.
- Collaborate with licensed nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and adherence to care plans.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Document care provided, observations, and any significant changes in individuals’ condition accurately and in a timely manner, using electronic medical records or paper-based systems.
- Report any concerns, incidents, or observations to the licensed nurse or designated supervisor, following established reporting protocols.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a state-approved nursing assistant training program and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- Current CPR certification; additional certifications may be required based on state regulations and facility policies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals, families, and healthcare team members.
- Compassionate, person-centered approach to care, with a genuine desire to help others and make a positive difference in their lives.
- Physical stamina and endurance to perform tasks that require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
